To the Staff at San Carlos Pet Hospital,
My wife and I would like to thank all of you for everything that you did for our cat Serafina on her last day, Tuesday, January 6th. It was a tremendously difficult day for us, but our pain was eased by the good care and concern provided by Dr. Stauber and the rest of the staff.
Do please forgive me if I misspell anyone's name in the following paragraph, but we received consideration from everyone we encountered, and I wanted to cite them by name. Mitchell at the front desk was very kind to us when we arrived without an appointment that morning. Cory was also tremendously helppful and considerate as we discussed our options for Serafina's remains that evening. (To Cory, we were tremendously sorry to hear the loss of the dog that you adopted from your grandmother.) During the day we received a nice call from Tracie when billing charges exceeded the initial verbal estimate. And we enjoyed briefly meeting Matt when he brought Serafina to the exam room for her final appointment. The kindness that he displayed towards her was quite evident, and it was much appreciated. Speaking of kindesses: although I did not cather her name, I would be remiss not to say "thank you" to the vet tech who volunteered to restrain Serafina during euthanasia. That's not a duty that most people probably relish at the end of their workday, but she did it with obvious love. We were very grateful -- and of course that extends to the vet techs we didn't meet.
Finally, we want to note that Dr. Stauber was at the clinic when we arrived without an appointment bearing Serafina before 8:00AM that morning, and she was still there after 6:00PM when Serafina required from her one final act of kindness. Perhaps that was a typical day's work for a DVM, but for us that was anything but a typical day. Dr. Stauber was patient with us, thorough with Serafina, and willing to tolerate my amateur ramblings on cranial nerves, menace response, focal seizures, and other terms of anatomy and pathology which I no doubt used incorrectly. We really appreciated all that she did for us and for Serafina, and it eases our suffering to know that we brought Serafina to a veterinary practice that treated her so well on her last day. We'd give anything to have her back; short of that, we'll settle for the good ministry provided by the doctors (including Dr. Karle -- thank you, too!) and staff at your pet hospital.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Paul Cerra (for Stephanie and Serafina)
Dear Dr. Haddad,
Last evening, well after usual office hours, Cory called us to follow up on the price of a generic version of clindamycin which had been suggested last month as a possible method of treatment for our Labrador, Toby. Apparently, someone had called once, but we never got the information.
His case is a rather mysterious one, and my husband and I opted to forgo giving him any antibiotic until we had a better idea as to what Toby's actual problem might be (if there is in fact still an issue), but we wanted to know about the cost of the medication if it became necessary at a later date.
Additionally, had he gone through the suggested four week program, we would have been no further ahead in solving or curing the problem, as there have been no additional symptoms, behavioral changes, weight loss, etc. since Dr. Karle examined him March 20th. There would have been no way of knowing if the treatment had been effective or not.
Cory and I talked for quite a while since we had heard from S.C.P.H., she promised she would speak with Dr. Rutherford about Toby's case in the thought that maybe a fresh pair of eyes might see something previously missed, or that he might have a suggestion as to where we might go from here.
Her kindness and pathos was also illustrated when our daughter, her fiancé and I brought their 3 year old bunny in the very end of December.
"Dusty" had died suddenly and had been like their "daughter". Needless to say, it was a very difficult time for them
Cory could not have been more patient, understanding and tender as she explained their options for returned cremains, showing us examples of the lovely boxes, telling us about and praising the company who performs the service, approximate prices and timeline.
Cory is truly caring and knowledgeable, very dedicated and sincere about all animals and the people who love them. She made a difficult situation immeasurably easier.
Dusty's final "home" is a beautiful memorial to a cherished pet. I'd like to think in the future my cremains will be as nicely commemorated!
True to her word about bringing Toby's case to Dr. Rutherford's attention, he called us this afternoon, and left a very insightful and reassuring message about what his take on Toby's situation is. I'm sorry we weren't here to take his call, but the message was great and much appreciated. Please thank him for us.
At this stage, it's nice to have our thoughts on Toby's situation validated. We share Dr. Rutherford's "If it's not broken, don't fix it" opinion, especially now since there isn't much Toby's volunteering!
Please know how much we truly appreciate Cory and Dr. Rutherford's help and dedication.
Most sincerely,
Corinne Bertram

Very
happy with the treatment our dog received from Dr. Karle today. She
went in for vaccinations, an exam and to receive a microchip implant.
Dr. Karle was very friendly, personable and took time examining our
dog and reassuring her.
The prices are reasonable. Other
staff was friendly, male tech that assisted the doctor was very good
drawing blood from my dog.
********* UPDATE ++++++++ Boarding Facilities here +++++++++
We boarded our dog here for a week and had a good experience. It is a small kennel, clean, quiet and the staff was friendly.
Waiting area was clean and smelled ok (as good as a vet clinic can smell without smelling too much like disinfectant).
Overall, a positive first visit and good experience.

My
family has been taking our pets to the San Carlos Pet Hospital for
decades! Every pet my Grandparents have owned and we have owned since
we moved up here 14 years ago from birds to hamsters, from cats to
dogs, and even a hedgehog have gone to the SCPH. I am NOT saying that
we haven't had a negative experience, but when it comes to our regular
vet Dr. Hardy we have NO complaints!
My family prefers to see
Dr. Hardy who has got to be the most competent and caring Veterinarian
in the world! She genuinely cares about the animals that are brought in
to see her, and she also genuinely cares about the people who bring
their pets in to see her! She realizes that sometimes the "Vet
Experience" can be just as traumatizing for owners as it is for the
animals.
I also have to give major credit to the other staff of
SCPH. The Front End Staff, the Vet Techs, Dog Walkers, etc. have always
been wonderful! When I walk in the door with my girls, they know my
girls by their names... even when we unexpectedly drop in and they are
not expecting us! They also genuinely care about the animals that are
brought into their facility.
For example... my Lily was deathly
ill passing and vomiting blood. I thought she was going to die and I
could hardly keep my composure! Knowing how afraid I was, either Dr.
Hardy or a member of the staff called me every couple of hours with an
update on how my baby girl was doing. When I finally got to pick her up
I found out that the Vet Techs were with her like 24/7. When she
finally got off IV fluids they carried her everywhere with them because
they knew what a lap dog she was and how much she loved to be carried
around!
I know that SCPH has other Vets and I don't pretend to
like them all. I have never had any encounters with Dr. Evans (he's
obviously fairly new) but Chad N. thank you for the warning! Also just
so you know Dr. Tanzanela (have no clue as to how to pronounce or spell
her name and I don't really care to know) I find is very condescending
and I will NEVER take my babies back to see her ever again! She tends
to talk down to you and make you feel like it is your fault that your
pet is sick, or injured. Maybe it was her having a bad day, but I feel
that if you are in a positions such as a Doctor or a Veterinarian, you
suck it up and put on your best face and attitude!
Well, that is my 2 cents! I LOVE Dr. Hardy and the support staff, but not to happy with or know the other Vets!
***UPDATE***
I
had to take my Lily in to the SCPH again today as she was acting
strangley and I was worried she was injured or sick. I had an
experience with Dr. Evans for the first time and I actually have to
disagree with Chad N.'s review of him as he was so sweet and so
supportive and helpful! He was VERY knowledgeable and I will gladly
take my girls back to him anytime!
I also have had experience
with Dr. Carlie (sorry if the name is spelled wrong) but she was also
such a joy and sooo incredibly sweet. While I will always miss Dr.
Hardy, I think that Dr. Carlie and Dr. Evans are doing a wonderful job
as her replacement! I could totally see Dr. Carlie as being a younger
Dr. Hardy with the same love and compassion for animals!

Took my new kitten in for a check-up, vaccination, and an exam of her poor, little red butthole. I called at 8 and got a same day appointment for 9 and when I got there the front desk staff processed us through quickly and efficiently. There is one super friendly admin and one 'kind-of-annoyed-to-be-here' admin, but both were entirely competent and pleasant. 5 minutes later we were in to see the vet, who was extremely good with my kitty and answered all of my 9,000 questions. She administered the vaccination and gave some good advice about what other vaccinations kitty needs. Then she drained the kitten's anal gland in another room, which is worth 5 stars all by itself. I was holding my breath during the check-out, thinking it was going to be well over $100 (she drained an ANAL gland, people!) but it was only $27 for the whole shebang. I am confident we have now found our lifelong vet
FRONT STAFF HAVE IMPROVED SINCE MANAGEMENT CHANGE
I like the front staff even more since the change of MANAGEMENT, NAMELY TRACY. I HAD NO EXPERIENCE WITH DR. HARDY, BUT HEARD SHE WAS IMPORTANT TO THIS PLACE. THERE IS DEFINITELY MORE COMPETENCY AND I LIKE THE STRAIGHT FORWARD ANSWERS I HAVE BEEN GIVEN RE: MY ANIMAL. MY DOG GETS EXCITED WHEN SHE KNOWS WE ARE COMING UP TO SAN CARLOS PET HOSPITAL. I AM VERY HAPPY THAT THERE IS A GREAT PET HOSPITAL IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. THEY DON'T HAVE A PAYMANT PLAN, BUT THERE IS A THING CALLED CARE CREDIT, AND I CAN USE THAT TO PAY FOR ALL THE MEDICAL NEEDS OF MY PET.

Highly Recommend
I recently had a very sick dog. This hospital worked with me, got the dog in, and followed up with daily phone calls. They were fabulous in helping me with my concerns and fears and best of all their prices are the most reasonable I have had in this very expensive area. My dog is well and will continue to go there as needed.
Professional and Friendly
I would recommend any pet owner to come here. I have 2 dogs and have always had the best service and treatment. Delilah and Snickers, my 2 pups are pretty thankful!
Fine Animal Hospital
San Carlos Pet Hospital is professional and friendly. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable. The vets are experienced and professional. Prices are less than some others in the area. I have always felt comfortable bringing my dog to them.
